چکیده

• In the past ten years sustained infusions of Z-norepinephrine (NE) have been used in the treatment of cardiogenic hypotension. In many of the reports the poor results and low rates of survival have been attributed to the severity of the underlying myocardial disease. Detailed studies of the cardiovascular effects of NE have focused on the hemodynamic changes during acute infusions of this catecholamine.' During these short-term infusions norepinephrine increased peripheral vascular resistance and exerted a positive inotropic effect upon the myocardium. The cardiovascular effects of prolonged NE infusion are less clearly defined. Excessive doses of catecholamines administered to experimental animals have produced diffuse myocardial destruction.' The purpose of this study was to investigate the hemodynamic changes in the cardiovascular system during prolonged infusions of relatively physiologic doses of NE.

Cardiovascular effects of sustained norepinephrine infusions in dogs. IV. Previous treatment with adrenergic blocking agents.

Sustained infusions of norepinephrine (NE) are known to produce deleterious pathophysiologic effects on the circulatory system. The mechanisms responsible for these effects were investigated in 25 dogs; 17 were treated with selective block of alpha receptors by phenoxybenzamine or of beta receptors by propranolol, or by both agents, and then infused with NE (4 /ig-kg--min-) for 4 hours; 8 contr...

Effects of Steroids on Cardiovascular Responses to Norepinephrine

Cardiovascular responses to graded iv infusions of norepinephrine were observed in 24 dogs that had been treated for 1 week with either placebo, dexamethasone, or deoxycorticosterone. Eight dogs served as control and received daily iv injections of placebo; eight dogs received the mineralocorticoid, deoxycorticosterone; and eight received the glucocorticoid, dexamethasone. The three groups did ...

The Relation of Angiotonin and L-norepinephrine to Essential Hypertension as Determined by the Reaction of the Nailfold Capillary Bed

Further evidence has been obtained that L-norepinephrine infusions markedly decreases cutaneous capillary blood flow in the nailfold. Sustained ischemia of the capillary bed occurred prior to the attainment of hypertensive diastolic arterial blood pressure levels. Corroborative evidence of this nailfold capillary ischemia was obtained from the capillary reactive hyperemia that followed the abru...

Bioactivity and interactions of adrenomedullin and brain natriuretic peptide in patients with heart failure.

Plasma concentrations of the recently discovered hormones adrenomedullin (ADM), from vascular tissue, and brain natriuretic peptide (BNP), secreted by myocardium, are elevated in patients with heart failure. We tested the hypotheses that short-term increments in circulating levels of these hormones, within the pathophysiological range, would have biological effects and that the 2 hormone system...

Vasopressin vs norepinephrine in endotoxic shock: systemic, renal, and splanchnic hemodynamic and oxygen transport effects.

The effects of intravenous norepinephrine (NE, group 1) and vasopressin (AVP, group 2) infusions on systemic, splanchnic, and renal circulations were studied in anesthetized dogs under basal conditions and during endotoxic shock. Under basal conditions, AVP infusion induced a 12 +/- 7% drop in left ventricular stroke work, a 45 +/- 5% fall in portal venous blood flow, and a 31 +/- 13% decrease ...
